This month I had the opportunity to chat with Brenden Carter and Rhiana Power from The Learning Hook team for their latest podcast. The Learning Hook is an e-learning provider. The Learning Hook team is passionate about learning and leadership, so we had a great discussion about all things high performing teams and learning.
As some of the key elements of the conversation, we discussed:
- a great story of an organisation’s transition from the ordinary to extraordinary through learning to learn together
- the impact leaders as learners can make
- the key attributes of creating learning teams
- if the old ‘storming, norming and performing’ cycle has changed
- some hot tips on processes to put in place to better equip our teams for performance (learning underpinning all this)

Are You Really Listening
The insights we have about the quality of their listening (both good and bad) make a profound impact on our leadership. During my leadership development programs, I draw from the expertise and approach of Oscar Trimboli. Oscar's area of expertise is Deep Listening. I have learnt a great deal from Oscar about how to use listening to enable greater trust and understanding.
What is Not Listening Costing You?
5. Misunderstandings, frustration, a sense of being isolated, no shared burdens of pain, relationships on hold, disappointments and increased fears.
(Deep Listening, Impact Beyond Words 2017)
Ouch! So many leadership spot fires come from us not deeply listening at critical times. Who in your team could do with you listening in a more connected and deeper way? From a trust perspective, the key to deep conversation is the ability to listen to connect. Trust levels increase when we feel authentically listened to, valued and understood. So many crisis situations could be avoided if we had taken the time to pause, be present and listen.
